SPIN’s Tribute to Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’…A Free Album!

Can you believe that it’s been 2o years since Nirvana‘s Nevermind came out? It’s one of my favorite CDs. I remember though, back in those days (like I’m ancient), I was 16 and I was totally into Grunge. I wore the plaid shirts with tshirts underneath and I listed to Pearl Jam too.

Dave Grohl chimed in to say what it was like back then:

All of that success happened so quickly. The funny thing is that Nirvana were still playing places that held 700 to 800 people by the time we had a gold record. We were still touring in a van when we had a platinum record. I was still living in my friend’s back room by the time we’d sold ten million records. It wasn’t some crazy VH1/MC Hammer overnight bling success — I think we were all in shock after it happened. I went to Benihana with a credit card like, “Oh my God, this thing works!”

To celebrate the success of the album SPIN magazine has compiled a free album called Newermind. It’s composed of cover songs. It is available as a FREE download now through July 25 exclusively via SPIN’s Facebook page.

Hunger Games Releases Their First Motion Poster

Since Harry Potter is winding down and the Twilight Saga is going to be wrapping up soon so there has to be something for teens to obsess about right? Lionsgate just released the motion poster for the movie Hunger Games, its based on the first novel of the trilogy by Suzanne Collins.

Hunger Games hits theaters on March 23, 2012. It stars Jennifer Lawrence — an Oscar-nominee for last year’s “Winter’s Bone” — as Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year-old living in the post-apocalyptic country of Panem. Every year, a boy and girl are chosen from each of the country’s 12 districts to fight each other to the death until only one remains. Katniss is from one of the poorest districts, but she is skilled in archery and hunting, which makes her a fierce competitor. Katniss wears a mockingjay pin — the flaming symbol on the poster — which is a sign of rebellion against Panem’s oppressive government.

I know I’ve read a bit of the book while glancing through it. With the cast they have like Woody Harrelson and Lenny Kravitz I’m sure they will have an instant hit.
