Ten Years Later…I Will Never Forget

Posted: 11 Sep 2011 11:36 AM PDT

It’s been ten years since the world changed. Ten years today and I can’t forget. The date September 11th is ingrained in our heads for our lifetime now. Every year I have had this site I’ve written something on this day. It mostly goes how I watched everything happen on CNN, how I watched the planes hit the buildings, how I saw them fall. How I couldn’t understand what was going on. And still ten years later I think of today and still ask why did it have to happen…

I found this amazing documentary that was sent to me in my email. I think that it could sum up the events better than I could. After all, I wasn’t there. I was here in Canada watching it all happen. But that doesn’t mean that here we didn’t feel the same sort of things.  I tell people that I live in a flight path. I think the most eeriest thing for me was when there was no planes allowed in the air for days after the incident. For days, I heard nothing in the air. It was this silence that I couldn’t handle. That’s how I knew it was real.

Today, I think about the victims, the ones that went to save the victims and all of their families. I pray that someday you will find the peace that you need.

New Stills & Clip From ‘Machine Gun Preacher’ Starring Gerard Butler Released

Posted: 10 Sep 2011 10:09 PM PDT

It’s almost time for Machine Gun Preacher starring Gerard Butler to be hitting theaters in limited release. New stills and a clip have been released. Now I must be bias. But I think Gerard looks amazing in this movie.

The synopsis goes like this: In this inspirational true story, Machine Gun Preacher is about Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing criminal who undergoes an astonishing transformation and finds an unexpected calling as the savior of hundreds of kidnapped and orphaned children. Gerard Butler (300) delivers a searing performance as Childers, the impassioned founder of the Angels of East Africa rescue organization in Golden Globe-nominated director Marc Forster's (Monster's Ball, Finding Neverland) moving story of violence and redemption. When ex-biker-gang member Sam Childers (Butler) makes the life-changing decision to go to East Africa to help repair homes destroyed by civil war, he is outraged by the unspeakable horrors faced by the region's vulnerable populace, especially the children. Ignoring the warnings of more experienced aide workers, Sam breaks ground for an orphanage where it's most needed—in the middle of territory controlled by the brutal Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), a renegade militia that forces youngsters to become soldiers before they even reach their teens.

But for Sam, it is not enough to shelter the LRA's intended victims. Determined to save as many as possible, he leads armed missions deep into enemy territory to retrieve kidnapped children, restoring peace to their lives—and eventually his own. The explosive, real-life tale of a man who has rescued over a thousand orphans from starvation, disease and enslavement, Machine Gun Preacher also stars Michelle Monaghan (Due Date), Kathy Baker (Cold Mountain), Madeline Carroll (Mr. Popper's Penguins), Academy Award® nominated Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) and Souleyman Sy Savane ("Damages").

It hits theaters in limited release on September 23rd.

Ellen Degeneres Covers Good Housekeeping

Posted: 10 Sep 2011 05:41 PM PDT

Ellen Degeneres covers the October 2011 issue of Good Housekeeping. I have missed being able to watch her show since I’ve had no cable. Her new season of her show starts soon too so everyone should be watching that. Here are some highlights of the interview in the magazine.

On the accomplishment she is most proud of: "I'm glad I'm funny. I'm glad I make people happy, because that's very important. But I'm proud to be known as a kind person."

On comedy as a source of comfort, after a tough childhood: "I was quiet as a kid and wasn't funny until I was a little older. Then I remember being funny, because I remember people laughing. But I was more of the sensitive type, taking care of injured animals I found. But I was aware of all the stuff nobody in my family was talking about. Everything was fine all the time. I was like, Really? It doesn't seem like it. I watch people's behavior and notice things. I think that's why I became a comedian."

On her positive attitude: "Well, I'm definitely happier than I've ever been. I assume tomorrow I'll be happier than today, because things are great. I have a great career and I have wonderful fans who really are supportive and loyal—because I'm not hiding anything from them. So, on the spectrum of happiness, I'm pretty high up there."

The issue hits newsstands on September 13th.

Ryan Gosling Covers Esquire Magazine

Posted: 10 Sep 2011 03:45 PM PDT

This September 2011 issue of Esquire came out in August but since Ryan Gosling is at the Toronto Film Festival this weekend promoting The Ides of March with George Clooney I just had to post this now. Isn’t the cover cute? I know that having two Ryan’s around would be just as perfect as having one!  Here are highlights from the interview with the magazine:

On being recognized: "It's like being in a dream. You don't know anybody, but everybody knows you, everybody reacts to you. You can be walking along in a dream, through a pretty normal world, and then bam, everything seems to be a response to your presence. Everything seems to be driven by you. And that's notable at first, and you deal with it. And then – and it happens every time – you become aware it's a dream. Right about then, when you think you have it figured, and that acknowledging that will make it easier, it inevitably becomes a nightmare."

On why it's pretty sweet to be an adult: "Sometimes I think that the one thing I love most about being an adult is the right to buy candy whenever and wherever I want."

On puberty: "I went through puberty in a theme park. I'm grateful. That place was a landscape to me. I had adventures every day….Backstage at Disney World, there are stories. Mickey Mouse with his head off, drinking coffee on break. Pirates on the phone. Ghosts in line for food. It just made me see things."
