Howie D & I: The Interview

Posted: 29 Sep 2011 06:52 AM PDT

Since I have been feeling under the weather, I thought now would be the perfect time to publish my interview with Howie D. I’m sure, unless you live under a rock, that you have heard of Howie as he was one of the Backstreet Boys. He is releasing his debut solo album, Back To Me, in November. I must admit that I was instantly hooked to his song 100.  So in November, when he releases his album I know it will be amazing.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Howie myself and although I was quite nervous asking him questions since he was a Backstreet Boy (I was a bit fangirly), I got it together and quite enjoy the final product.

Taylor: If you could have someone over for dinner alive or dead would it be?
Howie: I met Michael Jackson briefly in NY but would have loved to gotten more time to get to know him. He is the biggest entertainer I have ever looked up to for unbelievable talents.

Taylor: What was it like back in the mid-90′s being so popular with the Backstreet Boys?
Howie: It was the most amazing roller coaster ride anyone could have ever asked for. We were and still are shown soooo much love for all of our fans all around the world.

Taylor: What is the difference you see in the music from the 90′s to now?
Howie: The difference I see the most is how people are getting the music delivered to them now a days. The internet has played such a huge impact on this as it is allowing the artist and consumers to get music into their homes much faster now.

Taylor: You were just in Calgary (where I live) in July on tour with NKOTB, what was it like being back on tour?
Howie: The thing I love most about what I do is touring. I feel I come alive everytime I come into a different town and see all our amazing fans. When we came to Calgary recently with NKOTBSB it was right in the middle of Stampede week so it was crazy there.

Taylor: It is being said that your new album, Back To Me, is your own personal legacy, in what way do you feel this?
Howie: I feel it is exactly where I am now with all the positive things going on in my life. This played a big reason why I chose to put a bit of Euro/Pop dance songs on it. They make you wanna get up and enjoy life and leave behind any stress.

Taylor: What is your writing process like? Do you write from personal experience? Or just what comes to you?
Howie: I write from where ever it comes from in the moment. Some songs come from personal experiences and some come from thoughts or words that pop into my crazy head at the moment.

Taylor: You are a manager to one of my favorite bands, Neverest, how did you end up going into being a manager?
Howie: I have always wanted to help others, as I can remember how I was helped in the beginning. The first artist I was able to help was my older sister Pollyanna, who I always looked up to when I was younger as a singer. Since her I have developed a passion now to be a manager, as it gives me another creative outlet to be apart of this crazy music business. I am very proud to be working with Neverest, as they are a great group of talented guys.

Taylor: Who would you like to work with given the chance?
Howie: There are so many great talented people out there to work with it's hard to just pick one. I did have the honor to work with Jon Secada on my first solo CD and that was a dream come true, as I am a huge fan of his work.

Taylor: What would you like to say to the fans about the album, Back To Me?
Howie: I would love to say thanks for all their patience with me on making this album. It has been a unbelievable musical journey that I can't wait for them to hear. I truly hope they enjoy it as much as I did making it.
